Moab, Utah- Dog & Vegan Friendly!

In 2006, when Emma was only seven months old, she took her first road trip with us to Moab, Utah. We were impressed with how vegan and dog friendly this small town is! There are several places to stay in the town that allow dogs, but the one I would recommend is the La Quinta (shown in the picture below). We've stayed in quite a few La Quinta hotels and have loved each one, but this one is extra special because they have a fenced in dog run on their property. We got a lot of use out of it and were very thankful for it being there! If you'd like a little more privacy, Raven's Retreat sounds like a perfect place for you. It's on an acre of land (next to a stream, too!), is powered by wind-generated energy and has a fully equipped gourmet kitchen. You'll be able to explore without leaving the property along with having all the comforts of home (and then some, with an outdoor jacuzzi!).
There are several national and state parks close to Moab, including Arches (shown in the first picture above), Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Dead Horse Point (shown in the last picture of this post) and Goblin Valley (shown in the picture below with Emma in it). Although you can't bring dogs on trails in the National Parks, you can have them in your cars and let them on the roads and picnic areas. The state parks do allow dogs on the trails. Dead Horse Point is a short drive and offers beautiful views into the canyons. Goblin Valley was our absolute favorite. This unique park is a bit of a longer drive in a very isolated area, but it's worth the extra time. Emma had a good time in them all!
There are also several places to hike and walk with your dog around Moab. The names are absolutely horrendous, but the trails in Negro Bill Canyon and Hunter's Canyon are good ones because they both have water that your dog can swim in. Very nice on hot days! Wherever you take your dog, avoid bringing them on slickrock because it has a sandpaper effect on their paws, resulting in bleeding paw pads in a very short time. Also make sure to bring plenty of water for them to drink.

Another fun thing to do with your dog in Moab is to rent a canoe from the Moab Rafting and Canoe Company. You can bring them along with you on a self-guided tour and there are a lot of places along the way where you can get out, hike, picnic and explore.
As far as places to eat, you have quite a few to choose from. This site offers menus from most of the town's restaurants and the La Quinta hotel has a guide with menus in it, too. The Moab Brewery has several things on their menu that are vegan or that can be easily veganized (and their beers are vegan). You can get vegan waffles and a few other things at The Love Muffin Cafe and The EklectiCafe also has several things to choose from as well as organic coffee for you java lovers. A few other vegan friendly places are Singha Thai restaurant and The Peace Tree Juice Cafe. If you stay in the La Quinta (all rooms have mini fridges and microwaves!), the Moonflower Market is about a block away and carries quite a few vegan staples.

We plan on going back to Moab for vacation again someday and are looking forward to it. It's a great place to visit!
