Vegan Shoe Love

I used to be a shoe hussy, but over the last several years, I've been happy with a smaller, simple collection of shoes. Having developed plantar fasciitis a few years ago, I've learned the importance of wearing shoes that are good for my feet.

My most recent acquirement are the Cherry Mesh from Jambu's vegan collection. I rarely wear any shoes that cover my heel completely because I tend to get blisters on my heels very easily. So, I always look for comfy shoes that either have a small strap on the back or no back at all. These had the added bonus of being appropriate for work, too. I can't wear sandals to work, but these are about as close as I can get to sandals. Plus, you can see my latest tattoo when I'm wearing them! They're super comfortable, too. I often have to walk a lot at work and the soft, squishy sole is heaven to my feet. Aren't they cute shoes?

Besides all of that, Jambu is a pretty eco-friendly company. The outsoles are made from partially recycled material and all of their packaging is recycled and recyclable. They have eliminated plastic bags, so when you open up a box of their shoes, you'll find each shoe in a compostable, biodegradable bag made of corn. They're the perfect size to use as poop bags!
Then there is my obsession with Chacos. If I could, I would live in my Chaco sandals year round, but alas, Wisconsin does not make for year round sandal wearing. They make several vegan shoes, of which I own four styles. Their Flips are the only flip flops I can wear without being in pain because they have excellent arch support. Thankfully, they make a ton of cute colors and come out with new ones each year. For hiking and longer walks, I wear my Z/1's or ZX/1's. The straps are adjustable, so you can make them fit your foot perfectly. Like the Flips, the arch support is excellent and if the straps or soles wear out, you can send them in to be Rechaco'd. Like the Flips, they also come in a lot of cute colors.Their Redrock Mesh shoes are some of the only shoes I've been able to wear without getting blisters on my heels. Unlike a lot of shoes, they breathe really well and have great soles for hiking. For around the house, you'll usually find me wearing Flips during the warm months. In the cold months, I turn to Crocs. Sure, they're not the most attractive shoes, but I find their awkwardness oddly endearing. They're also very kind to my feet, especially when I'm standing on the hard tile floor in our kitchen, baking pup treats. As much as I used to love going barefoot, I've found that it now puts me in pain, so my Flips & Crocs are the next best thing.Do you have a favorite brand, style or preference of footwear? I'd love to hear about it!

  1. I'm embarrassed to say I have (at least) four pair of Jambu/J-41 shoes, but I wear and love them all. (I still want one of the dressier ones.) My most comfortable shoes are my Earth shoes — a pair of sandals and a pair of Earth solar, that I'm afraid are going to wear out soon. For longer walks I wear vegan Merrells and for more serious hiking I have an amazing pair of vegan Montrails.

I have a pair of Chaco sandals but can only wear them with socks because they rub blisters on the bottom of my feet. Do you ever have problems with that?

  2. Andrea, I get blisters at the first of the season with my chacos but then my feet seem to get use to it.

I love your shoes! I want another pair of J41s now. I have a pair that I really like.

  3. My Chaco sandals do irritate the bottoms of my feet a little at first, but I don't recall ever getting blisters from them.

I've tried Earth shoes and they hurt my feet, which is unfortunate because I really like a lot of their styles!

  4. I love those Chacos flip flops! I'm going to go check those out now. I think I need a pair of those!
I don't really have a favorite shoe that I just love...maybe that's going to change soon though.

  5. If you get them, I think you'll love them. They have a break in period, but after that, they're really comfy. :)

  6. A recovering shoe hussy, huh? LOL Well, as you know from my latest post I'm the furthest thing from a shoe floozy myself, but I definitely like the look of those Jambu and Chaco sandals, and am needing a lightweight summer shoe for our trip (and for at home, too, for that matter!) But I ordered this pair of Sanuks instead, for about half as much moola. BW got a pair of Sanuks for our trip to Maine and wore them pretty much constantly and loves them so much he's wanting another pair. And Bonnie, co-skipper of The Heron that we sailed on, was wearing a pair of Sanuks and when I asked her about them, said they're the most comfortable shoes she's ever worn. They look like shoes but are sandals, so they're not known for their arch support, but since I don't like wearing shoes and these are often described as making you feel like you're going barefoot, they sound like just the ticket for me! :-)

  7. Oooooo, Sanuks! I've often fallen in shoe lust with them, but I know that they would not be right for my feet. I love them! They have some really cute flops, too. I used to have very similar shoes to those and loved them.
