If tragedies both past and recent have taught us anything, it should be that we need to be prepared for any type of emergency, both large and small. So, I started to look into resources and found a pot of gold with Wag'N. Besides having an online shop with almost anything you could need if an accident or disaster happens, they also provide a lot of free resources, downloads and checklists. In their shop, you'll find first aid & evacuation kits, first aid kit supplies, pop up crates, safety gear and everyday gear like harnesses & leashes. Amongst my favorite items are the Wag'N Passports and the First Aid Bandanas. They have a lot of very unique, useful items!

They offer a variety of first aid and safety classes in several areas and have free downloads, including evacuation cards and preparedness checklists & seasonal safety guides. You'll also find a wealth of information in their No Tails Left Unbuckled Campaign (which provides a huge amount of travel safety tips) and Emergency Management Resources sections.I found their O2 Fur Life Program especially cool. Fire departments are usually only allowed to spend money on equipment that saves human lives, which is where their program comes in. They have a sponsorship option that lets anyone purchase an oxygen kit for whichever fire department they choose (a very reasonable $65). The kits are also available to those who have special needs animals at home and they have a fellowship program for first responders who would like a kit. Wag'N raises funds remotely to help provide the applicants with kits.
Want to put together your own kits? I have a guide on how to assemble your own first aid kit here (at the bottom of the post). To make your own evacuation/disaster kit, this checklist that Wag'N provides is fantastic.
Very cool info! Thanks for sharing the link.
ReplyDeletethat gave me some really good ideas for the emergency kit that i already had. i LOVE the oxygen kit for the fire department! i never thought of that. i started to cry when i read that you can use it on birds.
ReplyDeleteMelissa- you're welcome! I've been wanting to do a post like this for a while. The tragedy in Japan finally got my butt in gear to actually do it.
ReplyDeletedirtyduck- isn't the oxygen kit excellent? We're going to purchase one for our local fire department. That's so wonderful that it can be used on many kinds of animals, too, and I can just imagine how happy that made you to read that it can be used on birds! :)
Great info, thanks Molly! I'm always thinking of ways to be prepared; this is a great resource.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this info. I've been worried about earthquakes a lot lately, living in a zone. I need to get some stuff together for the critters and learn CPR for pups and kitties.
ReplyDeleteGreat info Molly! I will be putting together an emergency kit right away for Maggie!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it could be a good resource for everyone!
