A Hodgepodgey Kind Of Day

It was pretty nice out this last weekend, so we went for a lot of walks.  We're lucky to have a trail to walk on by our house, but not so lucky when we found a tick on Emma's neck.
Mike made the Happy Herbivore pancakes for brinner this weekend, which were pretty good.  We'd definitely have them again.  Mike prefers his with Lightlife sausage links, but I've never been a fan of sausage, vegan or otherwise.
Now that we have a fence that squirrels can climb, we're starting to see them in our yard.  While they're ultra cute, this does not make me happy because Emma has a very high prey drive.  She's very fast, but so far the squirrels (and a poor bunny that somehow made it in our yard) have been faster.
Sophie decided that she'd like to give the Wii a whirl.  She just couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing started!
Last night we had baked chickpea cutlets our favorite way- with a side of linguine and marinara.  Simple and delicious.  I was very happy to have leftovers for lunch at work today.
Tonight we tried a new recipe and it's a keeper- the Jumpin' Jambalaya from Vegan Fire & Spice.  The perfect level of heat with lots of flavor.  First time I had jambalaya and it won't be the last!
Not much else going on around here.  It's cold, rainy & windy with possible snow developing.  Bah!  I'll be taking a hot shower and spending the night by the fireplace, sipping on some hot chocolate.

  1. It all looks so good! I love breakfast for dinner...I'm sort of partial to the Litelife breakfast sausage too. The marinara and cutlet dinner looks so satisfying.

Is Sophie a dilute tortie? I always thought she was a tabby! What a cutie...she may well figure out that Wii yet...do they have cat games?

  2. Lots of great stuff happening in this post! You guys look so cute and I LOVE your hat!! I'm jealous of the pancakes, I haven't had pancakes in so long and yours look amazing. The pic of Sophie is too cute for words. Perfect. And finally, your chickpea cutlets look amazing and now I want one of those too. Reading blogs at night make me hungry haha!

  3. Yeah I definitely love your brinner meal! Brunch forever. Some homefries would be most welcome too.
The weather here has been surprisingly beautiful but there isn't much nature to explore and I can't get anyone outside with me! I wish I had a dog to walk to get me out of the house. At least you did FIND the tick and get it off.

  4. Wow, seems pretty late (and cold) in your neck of the woods for ticks to still be out and about! Glad Mike found it, but poor Emma! Tell her I said the tick was karma for trying to annihilate the cute squirrels and bunny in your yard! ;-) I'm glad the wee critters have managed to evade her. There's one squirrel here that just loves to torment our dogs, racing around the yard through the tree tops and along the top of the fence, running down to their level when they grow winded or bored and getting them all worked up again. LOL

Your meals all look ravishing, dahlink! I'm especially coveting your chickpea cutlet and marinara dish - YUM!!!! Sounds like you're having perfect weather for some of those comforting, hearty, spicy meals. We're still having a lot of "tweener" weather - too cold for simple stuff like sandwiches and salads, too warm to really get inspired to cook hearty meals.

My favorite photo in this post is the one of Sophie trying to play with the Wii! Too adorable! (You should contact Ninentdo, they'd probably pay Sophie big bucks to use that photo in their advertising!) ;-)

  5. I really wanna try those chickpea cutlets! What recipe do you use? Sorry about finding that tick, what do you use for flea/tick prevention when needed? I haven't had a lot of success with natural tick remedies on some of the foster dogs I've had. My dog has never gotten ticks. I do buy he heart worm drops from onlynaturalpet.com. It's called HW protect and I think it's great!

  6. I haven't tried the Lightlife sausage links, but looks like I need too...they look yummy!

awww...Sophie is such a cutie. I can't get over how much she looks like a cat that I used to have.

Yum, chickpea cutlets are so addictive..looks perfect with the pasta! And that jambalaya looks so good...I love jambalaya! :)

  8. Rose- she is indeed a dilute tortie! Although, there is a bit of tabby in her legs. I have no idea if Wii has cat games, but I would imagine they do. Seems like they have a little of everything!

vava- thanks! I got that hat from Herbivore and wear it a lot. I wish they'd make more of them!

foodfeud- now homefries I would have totally been into. Yum! I wish we had your weather right now. It snowed for the first time today & is really nasty out. Blech.

Laurie- ticks seem to stick around for longer than they should here, as well as fleas. The one time I had to deal with fleas was in December! That humidity keeps them around & active, for some reason. I should contact Nintendo- it's about time Sophie earns her keep! Love the mental picture of the squirrel tormenting the pups. Sassy squirrel! lol

Carissa- the recipe is in Veganomicon & has been raved about by many. Definitely try them. They're delicious! We've had them pan fried, too, but prefer them baked. I haven't had much luck with natural flea & tick prevention, either, so we use Frontline for several months here. I hate it, but this area can get bad and those critters can bring other, worse things to dogs, so it's a compromise.

Michelle- if you like breakfast sausage, the Lightlife would be up your alley. Or at least that's Mike's opinion of them. :)

Melissa- thanks! Isn't Sophie so adorable? I can't get enough of any of our girls. <3

  9. Wish I ate more Pancakes. I haven't tried the Lightlife Sausage. I usually buy the Yves Breakfast Patties. Beautiful Jambalaya.

  10. SV- I'll have to check the breakfast patties out. Maybe I'd like those. The Lightlife ones taste to anise-y to me.
