This list might seem small to some. After all, there's a big push lately about making large bucket lists with what seems to me a daunting amount of things on it. We like to keep things simple by weeding out what's truly important to us without putting high expectations (stress or pressure) on ourselves. There are other things we'd possibly like to do, but we left them off this list because they're things that won't fill us with regret if we never get around to doing them.
To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act. ~Anatole France
Downsize our possessions and simplify. We've done a lot of this over the last few years and want to keep doing it. The practical minimalist lifestyle really appeals to us.
Keep living a lifestyle that helps us stay healthy both physically and mentally. A goal for life, of course!
Be debt free. This and the above two goals are the things we're focusing the most on right now, which will help us achieve the rest of the stuff on this list.
Travel to every state together, exploring as much as we can. State parks, national parks, landmarks, odd roadside attractions and more. We want to see it all! I did consider listing the places in particular we'd like to visit, but that would be an endless list. (visit the bottom of my blog to see the states we've been in so far)
Take a hot air balloon ride. Or two. Or hundreds......
Get more tattoos.
See Cirque du Soleil at least once (we have tickets for it on March 17!!!).
Retire before we turn 60 (at least from full time work, unless if we happen to be loving what we're doing at that time in our lives).
Move to a warmer climate & downsize to a small house (or live in an Airstream full time!). This will most likely go hand in hand with our retirement.
Own an Airstream travel trailer and have a biodiesel vehicle (or other alternative fuel) to pull it with. This will also most likely go hand in hand with our retirement when we can travel for long periods of time at once.
Great list! I love that you've begun to simplify your life. I think these goals are totally obtainable and you are well on your way! And I'm so with you on the tattoos. I want so many more! ANd for the record, your hat is adorable!
ReplyDeleteDitto to the tattoos. 2034?! 2034?! Retire from a day job or creative job. 2014 sounds good to me. I see you are a sister Aries, we are the lover of goals and plans :) Happy New Year to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteLove that hat on you. And you're smiling! Although I like the more contemplative pictures of you as well.
ReplyDeleteYou must not mind being in the car much. I have to say I'm tiring of driving. If you head down my way you can hit up a few state on the way and I keep seeing hot air balloon deals on groupon. And there's a Cirque de Soleil here too. :-) No pressure. I'd like to see them again, it's been awhile for me.
Love hearing about your plans.Hope all your wishes come true.
I admire people who have such concrete goals and actively move towards them. my mind is so all over the place I can't decide on what to even strive for.
ReplyDeleteTattoos I can do. I hope to get a couple in January.
I'd also like to go back to school but I've been putting that off for years.
Hey there Molly..I have just been putting together my hopes for 2012 too. Although yours look more fun than mine..lol. I wish you every luck in achieving yours. I'm sending you many Happy New Year wishes and thanks for supporting my blog too! All the best..~Red~
ReplyDeletevava- I really feel great about the path our life is taking. Hopefully we can both get more tattoos soon! The hat is from Herbivore and is made from some of their shirt "rejects". :)
ReplyDeleteGigi- Yup, 2034. That's just an end goal for us because by the time we turn 60, we don't want to depend on working anymore. Hopefully it happens sooner, though, and there's a good chance it might!
bitt- Thanks! It's my favorite hat. :) I don't mind being in the car much at all. I think that I've always been a nomad at heart. I'd love to visit you someday! We have so many trips we want to take, including one to your neck of the woods.
foodfeud- Hey, as long as you're happy, no need to have concrete goals! I'm a firm believer in what you have being enough. Tattoos are always good, though!
Red- I think your hopes for the coming year are great! Too many people put way too much pressure on themselves when it comes to goals & resolutions, IMO.
Once again, Happy New Year to all! I hope 2012 brings everyone much goodness. :)
I love "get more tattoos"! I was thinking the other day about how cool it'd be to get a Mount Rushmore tattoo, but with my cats faces instead of former presidents. You can totally use that if you want (ha ha).
ReplyDeleteMolly, I'm definitely trying to downsize my possessions, too. We donate throughout the year, trying to release some of what we own. What does me in, though, is paperwork, like old school papers or kids' artwork, etc.
ReplyDeleteI love odd roadside attractions, and I've thought about traveling to every state too. I really admire how you're simplifying your life, probably because it's difficult for me.
ReplyDeleteI like staying active too, but I'm not quite ready to run outside. I fear that I'll trip and break my ankle and no one will find me and then I'll be eaten by bears. :(
And on that note...have a wonderful and happy new year!
Happy New Year Molly!
ReplyDeleteYour goals are so well-defined and as such, totally do-able. I hope you meet them all!
I'm at a loss for goals and such, at least any concrete ones like you have laid out...just going with the flow at the moment.
I love the hot air balloon ride--I'd love to do that too! It sounds romantic but I hear the sound from the hot air makes it very noisy.
ReplyDeleteStacy- that's such a great idea for a tattoo! You should do it! Love it. :)
ReplyDeleteblessedmama- It is hard to let some things go. I might be photographing certain things and getting rid of them, just so I still have a picture of them, at least.
Sage- I think it's difficult for most people! I grew up the complete opposite of how I live now, but I think I was always a minimalist at heart. I laughed when I first read about your fear of falling & being eaten, but now realize that could actually happen where you live! Yikes!!
Rose- Going with the flow sounds good to me! We only have goals because where we're at isn't where we really want to be, so until then, we'll work towards our goals. After that, having no goals at all will be quite nice. :)
Lorrie- I can imagine that it would get quite noisy! That, and the wind, probably. I've never flown in an airplane, but want to go on a balloon ride so much.
I haven't narrowed my resolutions into exact words yet, but I love all of yours. You've given me ideas. I would love to take a hot air balloon ride, too. And I've been working on getting through all of the states. I want my kids to have visited all of the states before they move away from home.
ReplyDeleteJenny- That's an awesome goal of visiting all of the states with your kids! There's so much they can take away from those experiences. Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteYay for tickets to Cirque!! Which one are you going to?
ReplyDeleteThe Michael Jackson Immortal one! I'm so excited. :)
ReplyDeleteI like "Dreams & Goals" so much better than the word resolutions. And you have some good ones on your list. Happy 2012!
