Snow, Food & Deer

I'm feeling a bit quiet lately, but thought I'd post a little something. I've got a few ideas brewing and have been taking more time with them, which I'm excited about. We're also celebrating the holidays with our families this weekend, making things a little more hectic than usual, of course.  The next two weekends are three day weekends that we have all to ourselves, though!

It's been a very mild season so far, making us very happy indeed.  This morning we woke up to our first snow.  While it was only a light dusting that won't be sticking around, it still counts, right?
Rowan made the first paw prints in the snow.
The other night we had a very delicious dish from the Everyday Happy Herbivore cookbook, Sweet and Sour Tempeh.
A co-worker was very interested in the hot sauces I posted about several weeks ago, so we ordered a few of their hottest "mutt" bottles, made with ghost peppers.  I was pleasantly surprised to see that they're made in Milwaukee from peppers that they grow themselves.  We're bringing it to my in-laws tonight for dinner, along with the Southwestern Corn Chowder that I originally heard about from Andrea.
Three deer were roaming around in back of our house for a little while this morning.  I took a short video of them (sorry for the shakiness- I didn't have time to set up the tripod to steady it).  They're so cool!

  1. Did you try the ghost pepper sauce yet?! I'm curious--they had those on Top Chef a few episodes ago. The tempeh looks amazing, and the deer sure were graceful, weren't they?

  2. Snow that doesn't stick around is my kind of snow. A light dusting is just perfect for capturing those cute little paws! And the deer look darling in it too.

I totally want to try some of that hot sauce. I've never had peppers that hot.

Have fun celebrating with your family; the food looks great!

  3. I am so with you, I'm very thankful it has been mild so far. I'm so bad during the winter :( The sweet and sour tempeh looks SO delicious! I'd love to try that with tofu. Mmmm.

  4. I'm always into all yr hot sauce reccs so thanks, although that 10++ is sort of scary! Beautiful snow, I bet the dogs loved it, all warm in their jackets. I wish we'd get some soon.

  6. Deer and snowflakes, so pretty! Makes me homesick for up north.

Love that the winter brings out cute doggie sweaters too.

I got someone on my list Happy Herbivore based on everything looking so good. I wanted to give them a vegan cookbook that seemed easy, was low fat and didn't rely on processed vegan food. And then I can borrow it from them.

  8. Stacy- I did, and it's really good! It's not as hot as I thought it would be. For example, I put 5 drops in a small bowl of the soup tonight and it gave it a nice kick, but didn't knock my socks off. The deer were so graceful & beautiful. We see them a lot around here and I could never get tired of watching them.

Rose- Snow that is someplace I'm not is my kind of snow, but the kind that doesn't stick around is definitely the next best thing! :D

vava- I don't handle winter well, either. It's such a downer, but this year has been pretty easy so far. I hope it keeps up for us both!

foodfeud- That hot sauce is scaring people we know. Only our co-worker, one of my stepsons, Mike and I would try it so far.... heh :)

SV- I wonder if they named them ghost peppers because they're scary hot? It's definitely fitting!

bitt- I haven't seen that supplement yet, thanks! You can come visit us anytime if you want to come north. :) HH is a great gift for someone, and I love that you can borrow it from them! lol

  9. I love the paw prints in the snow. I would love to live in an area that just got a light dusting, too. Right now we are just mostly sunny all year round, with some rainy days. I'd like more seasonal weather.

  11. Hello Molly :o) The paw prints reminded me of the first time the Sock Stealer first experienced snow..he spent the whole time outside running around trying to eat the large snowflakes and he was so white we lost him in the snow a few times..lol Thanks for the memory jog!

    veganelder- thank you!

Red- aw, so cute! Emma & Rowan used to get so excited about snow, but now they don't as much. They still have their moments, though.
