I'm Broken!

so.... i fell in our driveway while walking the pups today and broke my left arm near the elbow.   i only have the use of my right hand/arm now, so i'll be quiet for awhile.  i'll still be reading everyone's blog posts, though, just won't be commenting or posting because finger typing with one hand takes forever!  tomorrow i see an ortho dr. to see if i can get by with a cast or need surgery.  i hope to be back in action soon!

  12. Was the icy slippery? I am so worried that one of the dogs will take me down someday and give me a break. These things happen. I remember being fingerless for awhile with a broken finger and it was hard for typing. I hope your work is nice to you at least. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  15. thanks so much, everyone! quick update- saw dr. today and it's too swollen and painful to take good xrays or put in a cast right now. have it in a splint and sling until the 16th when i'll be seeing dr. again to find out more. on the strongest painkillers he could give me and still in a ton of pain. ugh! i can barely move it right now.

i'll be resting a lot and taking it easy. mike has been a great caretaker and the girls make me feel so much better. :)

bitt- i went to jump over something in the driveway when walking rowan. she made it over but i caught my foot and went down like a tree. oof!

fun times, i tell you! lol

take care, everyone and thanks so much for the well wishes. they mean a lot to me!

  17. Better a broken arm than a broken head.

Also: looking forward to your giveaway of the leftover painkillers.

(Easy for me to joke. I have yet to break a bone. Can't imagine what that's like).

  18. Oh no. I turn my back for a minute, and look what happens! Seriously, I'm really sorry to hear about your broken arm and I hope a cast is all you need. Hope it doesn't hurt too much, but I know even if it doesn't, it's hard to deal with.

  23. So sorry to hear about your arm. I hope the pain is lessening (and I hope you're right handed too). Good luck on getting better soon!

  24. thanks again, everyone! i'm getting very spoiled by all of my loved ones. my in-laws even brought us a big bag of oranges and grapefruit!

pain is still there, but much better. glad i can still go to work and that it wasn't something worse. i am right handed, so getting used to the finger typing more. i've broken bones before, but this is definitely the worst one.

SV- lol about the giveaway! at this rate, i don't think there will be any leftovers.... :o

  26. Oh nooooo! I'm so sorry about your poor arm, Molly, and sorry I'm so late to show up with my sympathy (and empathy!) What a start to the new year! I hope by today the pain has subsided. This has been the worst few weeks for broken bones - I think you make the 6th person I know (or know of through a friend) who has broken a wrist, arm or ankle since around Christmas! The others have all been because of falls on ice, though, rather than during practice for the 2012 Olympic hurdling competition. ;-)

I remember how painful it was when I broke my wrist, and how tedious finger typing was. Bless your heart! I wish you a very speedy recovery!

  27. thanks ashley and laurie! i decided to take a week of vacation to help myself heal up, so at least i'll be getting lots of reading and resting in! i'm counting myself lucky because out of all the times i've fallen or tripped (which happens a lot- i'm a clutz!) i've only gotten hurt bad twice now. maybe this is nature's way of giving me some time off. :)

  28. Bet you're right, I think this could be your subconscious' way of telling you to take some time off! I too am a total clutz, and how I've managed to escape cracking my skull open by now is a mystery. We should probably wear body armor and crash helmets at all times. LOL

When my wrist was healing, I would drink a daily beverage I called my "fluffy drink," which consisted of half vanilla hemp milk and half chocolate soy milk. It was such a yummy treat with a delightful creamy-foamy texture (inspiring the "fluffy drink" name), and I swear it was a main reason my wrist healed so quickly, to my orthopod's great surprise (he'd been quite certain I'd need surgery, and that my veganness meant I basically had a) no bone structure left and b) no capacity to heal. HA!!) Maybe Mike can whip you up a fluffy drink every evening, along with his healthy, vegan cookin' - your arm will be healed in no time! :-)
