Nature Has Some Mighty Mood Swings

I'm not only feeling up to doing a post, but also up to using proper capitalization!

We've been very lucky with it being a very mellow winter so far. I'm in no condition for our walks yet, but Mike has taken the pups out and played with them in the yard quite a bit. Emma often likes to chew on her toys with her butt sticking up in the air.  She's such an adorable dork.
It went from almost 50 degrees with no snow around at all......
to 20 degrees with a nasty wind chill and our first snow storm of the season.  It didn't drop a ton of snow, but there was enough for the wind to make some taller drifts.  It also looks like we're going to get actual winter weather for a while now, which for us means below freezing temps combined with a nasty wind and barely any sun.  The mostly mellow weather we've had so far will make the winter feel much shorter, at least, and for that I'm very grateful.
I haven't gotten a good capture of Crystal in a while, but got lucky today.  She'll be 19 1/2 years old in a little less than a month!  Her heart condition and overactive thyroid have been in check which is another thing I'm extremely grateful for.
It's back to work for me on Monday and I'll also (hopefully) be finding out more about the extent of damage in my arm & elbow then.  I haven't been able to go for much longer than 6 hours without taking a pain pill, so I'm getting a bit worried about making it through an entire work day without being very uncomfortable.  The pain has gotten less intense, though, so I'm hopeful.  While I could take the next 5 weeks or so off until this heals, my workplace makes us use up all of our vacation and sick days before taking unpaid days (or getting short term disability).  I'm not willing to go the majority of the year with no time off, so I'll just have to deal with the situation.  It could always be worse, though, and at least I have a good job, right?

  1. I'm glad that you are at least starting to feel a little better and I hope that you are able to maintain some level of comfort at work. That is a crazy weather shift! It has gotten very cold here too over the past few days. I really want to complain but I really can't because it took until the second week of January to get cold.

Crystal is such a beautiful and regal kitty! Great pics of the fur children :)

  2. Lovely yard those pups have. Sorry winter finally had to come, I bet you wished it just stayed warmer.

I am sorry you have to go back to work. I hope it's the type of thing where you can still figure out how to do your job safely with the arm issues. Some jobs are easier to phone it in than others. I would say if you can try to take half a pain pill and that could just take the edge off enough but not make you too out of it. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. we do love our yard- i just wish we could enjoy it more year round! emma won't stay out in this weather for more than a few minutes.

i'm going to take some pain meds with me on monday, just in case. taking half of one is what i'll probably do if i have to.

i hope you enjoy your weekend, too!

  3. It's about the same temperature here in San Francisco 365 days a year (70 degrees). I love it because dealing with the snow is too much for me. I'm super sensitive to cold temperatures.

I hope the damage in your arm isn't too bad. I'm glad the pain is easing up, but I'm sure it's still rough.

    1. see, that kind of weather is perfect! i don't care for anything under 60 and we would have moved years ago if mike didn't have his sons. some day!

  4. Yep, at least you have a job. The eight hours a day that pay for the other 16 hours. Thanks for posting an update on Crystal.

  6. Aw, Crystal is such a dear! Thanks for the photo; I always think of her when looking pics of the rest of the gang. Bummer about the winter weather...I'm not a fan of snow in general either. Hopefully, you'll catch a break and it will be short lived.

Good luck next week; I hope your arm keeps getting better and paining you less.

  7. LOL - it looks like Emma is doing yoga. Isn't that the "Downward Facing Dog" asana? :-)

So glad you're feeling up to blogging, capitalizing and punctuating again! :-) Hope you get a good report on your arm next week, and that returning to work doesn't set you back.

Crystal's looking good! The weather - not so much! We've had such a lengthy stretch of springlike weather (it hit 70ยบ on day recently!) that when winter weather hits, it feels very abrupt and not a little rude! Hope you can stay snug and warm (and off any ice!)

i actually ended up taking one more day off because just getting ready this morning brought a lot of pain back.... i was drenched in sweat and hadn't even gotten everything done. ugh. hopefully tomorrow goes better.

it's very icy here now and more is on its way. lovely!

  8. Your kitty looks very sweet. It's hard when they are getting pretty old, huh?

We're in a similar boat here, snow-wise. We've had virtually none until now, but yesterday changed that :(.

    Keep getting better!

    1. it is hard. she's very sweet, but her personality has changed. i think she's senile. but she's happy and comfortable, which is what matters.

  9. Yipes, I just caught myself up with your posts! So sorry to hear about the break - how painful. The only bone I've broken was my right pinky toe, and I rebroke twice before it healed. That hurt soooo much, so I can only imagine what you are going through. I hope the pain becomes tolerable, so you don't have to douse yourself with too much medication.
